Where Do I Learn About My Life Mission?

In Acts 20:24 I read, “The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me—to tell people the Good News about God’s grace.” (NCV)

God has a significant purpose for my life. It’s called my life mission, and fulfilling it should be my primary goal in life.

I wasn’t put on Earth to just be a consumer, waste my time, and live an uninspired life. God has something unique for me to do. He doesn’t want me to be a consumer; he wants me to make a contribution. He wants me to make a difference.

What is my life mission? The Bible says, “The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me—to tell people the Good News about God’s grace” (Acts 20:24 NCV).

God’s mission for me isto tell people the Good News about God’s grace.” And the best place to learn how to do that is in my church family.

I likely won’t learn how to fulfill my life mission at a business, in a school, or around my neighborhood. But it’s the job of my pastor and church family to help me do what God put me on Earth to do.

When I get to heaven, God isn’t going to ask about my church denomination. He’s more likely to ask, “What did you do with what I gave you? Did you use it to serve others? Did you ‘go everywhere in the world, and tell the Good News to everyone’ (Mark 16:15 NCV)?”

God has a ministry in the church and a mission in the world for me to fulfill. He wants to use my church family to prepare me to join his global mission. When I belong to a church family, they help me fulfill God’s purpose for my life.

We often feel that life is a failure unless we're getting a lot out of it: recognition, fun, money, success. But Paul considered life worth nothing unless he used it for God's work. What he put into life was far more important than what he got out. Which is more important to me, what I get out of life, or what I put into it?  Single-mindedness is a quality needed by anyone who wishes to do God's work. The single most important goal of Paul's life was to tell others about Christ. It is no wonder that Paul was the greatest missionary who ever lived. God is looking for more men and women who will focus on that one great task God has given them to do.

In Mark 16:15, Jesus told his disciples to go into all the world, telling everyone that he had paid the penalty for sin and that those who believe in him can be forgiven and live eternally with God. Christians today in all parts of the world are telling this Good News to people who haven't heard about Christ. The driving power that carries missionaries around the world and sets Christ's church in motion is the faith that comes from the Resurrection. Do I feel as though I don't have the skill or determination to be a witness for Christ? I must personally realize that Jesus rose from the dead and lives for me today. As I grow in my relationship with Christ, he will give me both the opportunities and the inner strength to share his message.
