My Faith Is Not About My Feelings

In review of Hebrews 11:27 this morning, I read “It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible” (NLT).

Because he trusted God, he was able to move forward. it was as if he could see God right there with him.

There is a strong belief in our culture that influences every one, whether we want it to or not: If it feels good, we do it. However, if I allow myself to be manipulated by my mood, I am living life according to my feelings. God wants me to live a different kind of life. He wants me to live a life of faith, not a life of feelings.

In reality, I don’t always feel like doing the right thing. I don’t always feel like being nice to people. I don’t always feel like doing chores around the house. I don’t always feel like stopping what I’m doing to help someone else.

However, what I’m learning is that God wants me to respond in faith, not according to my feelings.

It seems that anybody who’s successful at anything ends up doing things they don’t feel like doing. Such as an Olympic athlete exercises when they don't feel like it. Or a great musician practices his craft, even when he’s tired. As well as If you’re going to be a great salesperson, they make calls that other people don’t feel like making.

If I want to deepen my relationship with God, I spend time with him even when I don’t feel like it. People who have a regular, consistent quiet time with God didn’t get there because every morning they woke up and wanted to spend time with God. They got there because they woke up and spent time reading the Bible and praying even if they were tired or didn’t feel like it.

Faith includes pressing forward no matter how tired I am or how many other things I think I should or wish I could be doing.

In the Bible, Moses is an example of how to respond in faith, regardless of feelings. Hebrews 11:27 says, “It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible” (NLT).

This is how I keep going in faith. I begin to see the invisible. For only those who see God for who he really is, can persist in the most difficult times of life. Only those who see the invisible can do the impossible. Believe in faith what God can do in my life, and thank him in advance for how he is going to it.

In summary, because of trust and faith in God, I should be able to push through my fear and move forward, as if I could see God right there with me. In our culture, we tend to think, if it feels good, do it. However, this is allowing myself to be manipulated by my mood, living life according to my feelings. What I'm realizing is that God wants me to live a different kind of life, based on faith and not feelings. It's a fact that I won't always feel like doing the right thing. However, anyone who's successful, ends up doing things they don't feel like doing. Faith includes pressing forward no matter how tired I am or how many other things I think I should or wish I could be doing. Only those who can see God for who he is, will believe in faith what he can do. I should believe in faith and thank him in advance for how he is going to do it.

Today as I reflect on this, I pray with the help of your Spirit in me, that I do not allow myself to be driven by feelings. I need to do the right thing, even when I don’t feel like it. I need to live life by faith and not by feelings. When I can see God for who he is, I can move forward in faith, knowing that he will take care of me. I should also thank him in advance for how he always works for my good. I also ask for wisdom and guidance for my day, my tasks, my leadership and my interaction with others. I pray these things through your Son Jesus name, Amen.
