Jesus Says, ‘Come as You Are’

In Romans 5:8 I read, God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” (NLT)

Everything that Jesus did for me, he did out of love. The Bible says God made me to love me. The only reason I’m alive is because I was made to be loved by God.

God didn’t just say he loved me; he showed it. The Bible says, “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:8 NLT). It says while we were still sinners. Before I even knew I needed God in my life, Jesus died for me.

There is no truth to the thinking that I need to clean up my act before I can come to God. I can come to God with my problems, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

It’s like brushing my teeth before I go to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned! Why do we do things like this?

God says, “You don’t have to clean up your act. Just bring it all to me. Bring me all your problems and all your mess. I have all the answers. Come as you are.”

Easter shows the depth of God’s love for me. The Bible says, “He will send down help from heaven to save me because of his love” (Psalm 57:3 TLB). That’s what Jesus did on Easter. God sent himself from heaven to save me because of his love. So I can bring my problems to God—because he loves me and he has the answers.

If I don’t act on this Good News, then the death of Jesus Christ and his Resurrection are wasted for me personally; they’ll make no difference in my life. It’s not enough to recognize God’s gift; I had to receive it.

You will be saved, if you honestly say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and if you believe with all your heart that God raised him from death. God will accept you and save you, if you truly believe this and tell it to others” (Romans 10:9-10 CEV).

God is not asking me to make a promise I cannot keep. God is asking me to believe a promise that only he can keep.

In summary, God showed his great love for me by sending Christ to die for me while I was still a sinner. Everything that Jesus did for me, he did out of love. God made me, to love me. The only reason I’m alive is because I was made to be loved by God. God didn’t just say he loved me; he showed it. There is no truth to the thinking that I need to clean up my act before I can come to God. I can come to God with my problems, the good, the bad, and the ugly. God says, “You don’t have to clean up your act. Just bring it all to me. Bring me all your problems and all your mess, and come as I am.” Easter shows the depth of God’s love for me. God sent himself from heaven to save me because of his love. If I didn't act on this Good News, then the death of Jesus Christ and his Resurrection would have been wasted for me personally; and make no difference in my life. It’s not enough to recognize God’s gift; I had to receive it. God is not asking me to make a promise I cannot keep. He is asking me to believe a promise that only he can keep.

"While I was still a sinner", are amazing words. God sent Jesus Christ to die for me, not because I was good enough, but just because he loved me. If I start to feel uncertain about God's love for me, I only need to remember that he loved me even before I turned to him.

Lord, I need you today. Please give me Your strength for today and remind me in little ways that I can trust you in everything. You have my best interests in mind. I ask you for wisdom and guidance for my day, my work, my leadership, my interactions with others, my training for a future job role and learning a small group. I pray these things through you Son Jesus’ name, amen.
