Be a Promise Person

In Psalm 118:6 I read, The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” (NLT)

God is calling me, as his child, to be a promise person. A promise person is simply someone who chooses to focus on God and his promises. If I try to do anything of value in life, naysayers eventually will come my way. They might ridicule me, spread rumors about me, or even threaten me. But I shouldn’t focus on the naysayers or even on my problems. I need to focus on God and his promises and become a promise person.

The Bible tells me how Jesus responded to criticism: “When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly” (1 Peter 2:23 NIV).

When a naysayer comes my way, don’t head to a co-worker or friend to gossip. Instead, entrust myself to God and his promises. Pray, “Lord, I know you love me. I know you have a plan for my life. I’m going to trust you.”

King David said it like this: “The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” (Psalm 118:6 NLT).

People can dislike me, but it won’t harm me. I don’t need anyone else’s approval to be happy. I will be as happy as I choose to be. I don’t need approval from a parent, sibling, or friend. The Lord is for me. And His is the only opinion that matters.

In Psalm 119:11, David writes, “I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart” (The Message).

That’s what I need to do. Stop storing up in my mind all the negativity that comes my way. Instead, become a promise person. Bank on the promises of God. And trust he will do exactly what he says he will do.

In summary, the Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me. God is calling me to be a “promise person.” A promise person is simply someone who chooses to focus on God and his promises. When I try to do anything of value in life, naysayers eventually will come my way. I shouldn’t focus on the naysayers or even on my problems. Instead focus on God and his promises and become a promise person. When a naysayer comes my way, I don’t head to a co-worker or friend to gossip. Instead, I need to entrust myself to God and his promises. I can pray, Lord, I know you love me. I know you have a plan for my life. I’m going to trust you. People can dislike me, but it won’t harm me. I don’t need anyone else’s approval to be happy. I will be as happy as I choose to be.  The Lord is for me. His is the only opinion that matters. So stop storing up in my mind all the negativity that comes my way. Instead, become a promise person and bank on the promises of God. Trust he will do exactly what he says he will do.

The theme of Psalm 118 is to Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. I need to have confidence in God's eternal love for me. God's love is unchanging in the midst of changing situations. Knowing this will help give me security. Each day I must put my confidence in and be willing to trust God to guide me here on earth and to my eternal destination? How futile is it, to trust anything or anyone more than God. God help me to look only to you for approval.

Lord, I need you today. Please give me Your strength for today and remind me in little ways that I can believe in, have faith and to trust you in everything including my self-worth and my future. You have my best interests in mind. I ask you for wisdom and guidance for my day, my work, my leadership, my interactions with others, my training for a future job role and for leading a small group. I pray these things through you Son Jesus’ name, amen.
