Show Your Faith By Obedience

In summary of Matthew 11:29-30 it says, “Take my yoke upon you, put it on your shoulders.  Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Bottom Line:
Walk with him and take his yoke, watch how he does it.  He won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.

What this means to me:
When I decide (and this is a daily decision) to walk with him and take his yoke / learn from him, he teaches me to be gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart.  I then find much better relief, ease and refreshment for my soul.  For what Jesus teaches me is useful, good, gracious, pleasant and comfortable.  The actual burden of the day becomes much lighter and easy to bear.  Jesus calls me to a level of intimacy with him that can only be fulfilled by his constant presence in my life.  I can’t just say I have faith, but rather I must show faith by checking in with him daily and doing what he tells me to do.  (“Faith is only real when there is obedience, never without it, and faith only becomes faith in the act of obedience.”)  I can’t just follow a formula or set of tasks, I must simply follow him and do what he says daily.  Real faith is true obedience even when I’d rather just do what pleases me.  Today I need to substitute my own desires for his.
