God is The True Vine to Stay Connected To

In review of Matthew 23:11-12, 28 it says, “The greatest among you must be a servant. But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.”

Today's passage come from Matthew chapter 23 in which Jesus criticizes the religious leaders. In essence what they do is more for outward appearances rather than from true devotion to God. Jesus also shows me the character and attitude that I should adopt for my life. The greatest must be a servant. Those who attempt to exalt themselves will be humbled. Rather I should act and possess humility, allowing the exaltation to come from others. It does not good to look righteous on the outside, but inwardly be filled with hypocrisy. The best way to maintain a life of humility and of service is to be connected to a source who can provide me the strength I need to live this way.

What I have learned is that God is the True Vine. He is the ultimate example for me to follow, and I'm supposed to stay connected to Him. Though there are many great leaders and teachers in this world, Jesus remains the greatest teacher of all time. God wants me to be empowered by His Truth and His spoken Word, that is, by Jesus. He wants me to have a pure heart, not just the appearance of being good or righteous. As Jesus explained, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NLT

Today I ask you Father, to give me a pure heart. Let me lead by example and not just with the knowledge that I have. Help me to stay connected to You, the True Vine, so that I can bear good fruit. May my life reflect the greatness of Your love. Let my actions show that I believe, and let me desire to serve Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name.

Bottom Line:
God is The True Vine to Stay Connected To

What this means to me:
To be humble and live a life of service is best modeled by God and Jesus. I should stay connected to him and gain the strength I need to live it.
