In summary of 1 Timothy 4:8 it says, “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”
Bottom Line:
It is good to train, both physically and spiritually. Training for godliness is much better, the promise of the benefits from this will last in this life and the life to come.
What this means to me:
It is best for me to have discipline in both physical and spiritual training. One way for me to train for godliness is to maintain my physical health. God created me to be active and not a couch potato. While I am thoroughly convinced of this it doesn’t always translate to being committed to it. I need to reorganize my life such that I can include this into my day, along with quiet time, work and family time. I need to get back into the routine of walking daily. I still need to make time each day to have a disciplined life in God. Maintaining both will make me fit both today and in eternity.
